Democracy is “a system of government in which all the PEOPLE of a state are involved in making decisions about its affairs, typically by voting to elect representatives to a parliament or similar assembly", as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary and wikipedia.

Many people don’t see the difference but it’s huge ! In a Democracy, the PEOPLE has the power, which might be partly delegated to representatives, which are often elected with a proportional system, not a majority because every citizen wants to be represented.

In a Republic (such as the USA at Federal level), politicians need more money than their opposnent because of “the winner takes it all”. In a democracy (such as Switzerland for exemple), with 15% of the votes you may become President.
